This kilim was woven by the Maimana tribe, a minority ethnic group living in the mountainous central region of Afghanistan. A kilim is a flat-woven rug without pile, with main production areas in Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan. Locally, they are cherished and used carefully, being washed with water when dirty, repaired when torn, or repurposed into bags.

Although made of wool, it has a smooth texture similar to linen. It is highly breathable and thin, making it cool even in summer. Since it is dyed using natural dyes made from plants and spices, it is safer compared to chemical dyes, making it safe for use with children and pets.


Since the same pattern appears on both sides, it can be used not only as a rug but also for various purposes such as draping over furniture or as a partition. It is lightweight, so it can also be hung on a wall as decoration. It folds up compactly and is easy to carry, making it recommended for camping or picnics.
