Hand-woven carpets from the town of Bijar, located in the Kurdistan province of Iran. The Kurds, who make up the majority of the town's population, are said to have passed down the traditional Bijar carpet weaving techniques for generations since around the 16th century.


Nicknamed "iron carpets," the greatest feature of Bijar carpets is their durability.

In addition to their complex, beautiful and unique designs, Bijar carpets are unique in that they have a high density, achieved by the extra step of tightly compressing the weft threads between the rows of knots.

The appeal of carpets with a high weave density is that they have more delicate patterns, are flexible, and are durable enough to withstand years of use.
