This is a Mashwani kilim from Herat, Afghanistan. It is hand-woven by the Mashwani tribe. Their specialty, the sumak weaving technique, requires complex weaving skills, making it difficult to produce and rare, not often found in Japan.
It is a rug with an uneven texture, combining a kilim with a hemp-like feel and no pile, with a pile-woven carpet section. Its geometric design is beautiful, and it feels very pleasant underfoot.

The regularly linked diamond shapes create an enchanting design. While it may appear yellowish in bright light, it is a beige-toned color made with ochre and dark brown wool threads.

Besides being used as a rug, it can also be hung on the wall as it is light. Since it can be folded compactly and is easy to carry, it is also recommended for camping and picnics.
