This is a Mashwani Kilim from Herat, Afghanistan. It is hand-woven by the Mashwani Kilim tribe. The technique they excel at, Sumak weaving, requires complex weaving skills, making it difficult to produce and thus rare and not widely available in Japan.
This rug has an uneven surface, combining a pile-less, linen-like kilim with a piled rug section. Its geometric design is beautiful, and it feels very comfortable underfoot.

The regularly connected diamond shapes create an enchanting design. While it may appear yellowish in bright light, it is actually a beige-toned color using ochre and dark brown wool threads.

It can be used as a rug, of course, but it's also light enough to be hung on a wall as decoration. Since it can be folded compactly and is easy to carry, it's also recommended for camping and picnics.
