This is a finely woven sumac with a subdued, sophisticated color.
"Rahula" refers to a design style in which fine motifs are woven into a border pattern, and is now one of the most well-known kilim weaving styles in the Sirjan region of southern Iran.
Although the surface looks like it has been embroidered, this is not something that was added later; rather, it is a technique called sumack, in which, when weaving a kilim, a decorative thread is added in addition to the warp and weft threads, and the threads are intertwined back and forth.
The fabric is tightly woven and has an overall thickness of around 6-7mm, which is quite thick for a plain woven kilim.
