This kilim was woven by the Maimana people, an ethnic minority group living in the mountainous region of central Afghanistan. Kilims are flat-woven, pileless carpets mainly produced in Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan. In their native lands, they are carefully used; when dirty, they are washed, and when torn, they are repaired or repurposed into bags.

Although the material is wool, it has a smooth, linen-like texture. It is breathable and thin, making it cool even in summer. Since it is dyed using natural dyes made from plants and spices, it is safer than chemical dyes and can be used with peace of mind around children and pets.


Since the same pattern appears on both sides, it can be used not only as a rug but also draped over furniture or as a partition, offering various uses. Being lightweight, it can also be hung on a wall for decoration. It folds compactly and is easy to carry, making it recommended for camping and picnics.
