Kilim

[Product name] Persian hand-woven kilim [Size] 180 x 130 cm
[Material] Wool [Country of Origin] Iran [Color] Beige [Product Number] 261

This tribal rug showcases the skillful weaving techniques of Persia. It is a type of flat-weave carpet called a kilim, with no pile. Although it is made of wool, it has a smooth texture like linen. Compared to kilims from other countries, the pattern is finer and the surface is smoother. It uses a sophisticated technique called sumac weaving, in which decorative threads are intertwined with the warp and weft. While a typical flat-weave kilim has the same pattern on both sides, sumac weaving, as mentioned above, is a single-sided carpet due to the intricate three-dimensional finish achieved through the technique.

The design features a butterfly, a symbol of beauty and elegance.
The design of the linked diamonds called "Tranji" represents the identity of the Qashqai people. The cross motif drawn on the edge has the meaning of "protection" and is said to have the power to ward off misfortune.

The warm colours blend naturally into the space, creating a casually sophisticated atmosphere.

Its light weight means it can be used as a rug, or hung on furniture or a wall. It folds up small and is easy to carry, making it ideal for camping or picnics.
