This is a Mashwani Kilim from Herat, Afghanistan. It is hand-woven by the Mashwani tribe. Their specialty, the Sumak weaving technique, requires complex weaving skills, making it highly difficult and rare, not widely available in Japan.
It is a rug with an uneven surface, combining a kilim with a linen-like texture and no pile, with a pile rug section. Its geometric design is beautiful, and it feels very comfortable underfoot.

The regularly connected diamond shapes create an enchanting design. While it may appear yellowish in bright light, it is a beige-based color using ocher and dark brown wool threads.

It can be used as a rug or, being lightweight, hung on a wall as decoration. It can also be folded compactly and is easy to carry, making it recommended for camping and picnics.
