Gabbeh carpets are handwoven by the nomadic Qashqai people of Iran, using hand-spun, plant-dyed wool. They are thick and roughly woven from thick wool, and are characterized by their simple, charming patterns and colors.

This design mainly features the Tree of Life and sheep. Trees are a motif of life because they grow towards the sky where God is believed to reside, and are said to contain prayers for longevity and health. Sheep are also special creatures that provide food, clothing, and shelter for nomads. For this reason, the sheep motif is woven with the wish for a prosperous life.
