This is a 250×206cm Pakistani hand-woven rug, featuring a calming peach beige base with intricate geometric patterns spread regularly across it.

At first glance, it appears to be a familiar traditional pattern, but upon closer inspection, one can see the extremely fine weaving, from the continuous diamond motifs and small floral patterns in the center to the multiple layers of borders. The texture of the wool, the intricacy of the weave, and the three-dimensionality, which are difficult to convey in photographs, make this rug even more beautiful when seen in person.

The Charm of Jaldar Pattern

This design is Jaldar, one of Pakistan's representative traditional patterns. It is characterized by the continuous arrangement of diamond and geometric motifs called "guls," and its appeal lies in the composition that presents the entire rug as a single pattern without placing a large medallion in the center.

The Jaldar pattern is connected to the designs of Turkmen rugs from Afghanistan and Central Asia, and it has developed into a unique style by Pakistani artisans. While it shares some similarities with the Bokhara pattern, the more angular diamond motifs and the densely filled field are distinctive features of Jaldar.

A Rug with Attention to Material

This rug uses fine worsted Merino wool from New Zealand. It is characterized by the moist softness and natural luster unique to fine, uniform wool.

In Pakistan, the art of hand-weaving has been passed down through generations, incorporating traditional designs from Persia and Central Asia. High-quality wool imported from countries like New Zealand is also used in contemporary Pakistani rugs.

Hand-woven rugs of this class, made with such care, are becoming increasingly difficult to produce consistently due to factors such as the decreasing number of skilled weavers, rising raw material costs, and changes in the economic environment. Therefore, the traditional finish combining intricate weaving and quality materials is gradually becoming harder to find.
