This is a "Jaldar pattern" featuring five diamond-shaped medallions connected on an off-white ground. It is a design uniquely arranged by a Pakistani workshop, based on the traditional pattern of Bukhara rugs woven by the Turkmen nomads of Central Asia. This pattern, which once also served as a tribal emblem, is one of the representative designs of Pakistani rugs, combining the memory of nomadism with urban craftsmanship.
The rug uses Merino wool from New Zealand. It is characterized by fine fibers and a soft touch that is comfortable even on bare feet, and it has a silk-like luster depending on the angle of the light. The calm color scheme of off-white, terracotta, and sage green blends easily into both Japanese and Western-style rooms, making it a perfect piece for an entryway or bedside.
