All hand-woven rugs are one-of-a-kind and available while supplies last. As they are also sold in-store, they will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Thank you for your understanding.
This is a Mashwani Kilim from Herat, Afghanistan, hand-woven by the Mashwani tribe. Their specialty, the Sumak weaving technique, requires complex weaving skills, making it difficult and rare, and not widely available in Japan.
This rug combines a kilim with a linen-like texture and no pile, and a pile-woven rug section, creating a rug with a textured surface. Its geometric design is beautiful, and it feels wonderful underfoot.
The regularly connected diamond shapes create a captivating design. When viewed in bright light, it may appear yellowish, but it is a beige color using ochre and dark brown wool threads.
It can, of course, be used as a rug, but its light weight also makes it suitable for hanging on a wall as decoration. It can be folded compactly, making it easy to carry, and is recommended for camping or picnic scenes.
