The Qashqai are a Turkic nomadic tribe who have continuously moved with their flocks of sheep and goats from the mountainous regions in summer to the plains in winter, primarily in the Zagros Mountains of southwestern Iran. Their rugs were not originally woven for palaces or workshops, but rather by women in each household as floor coverings for tents, dowries, and ceremonial items. Without using pattern books or instructions, they weave solely relying on memories passed down orally from mother to daughter—this freedom and power are the greatest charms of Qashqai rugs.
