These kilims are woven by the Maimana people, an ethnic minority living in the mountainous region of central Afghanistan. Kilims are flat-weave carpets, primarily produced in Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan. They are treasured in the region, washed when dirty, repaired when torn, or repurposed into bags. Though made from wool, they have a smooth, linen-like texture. They are breathable and lightweight, keeping you cool even in the summer. Dyed with natural dyes made from plants and spices, they are safer than chemical dyes and are safe for children and pets.
