A Suzani Kilim handwoven by Iranian nomads. A "Suzani Kilim" refers to a flat-woven tribal rug, or "Kilim," that has been embroidered. Although Central Asian fabric embroidery, particularly from Uzbekistan, is well-known, the name originates from the Persian word "Suzan" (needle).

The design incorporates stars, symbols of happiness and fertility. Stars also symbolize the Mother Goddess as they represent the womb, and they carry prayers for fertility and prosperity of descendants.

The designs, each woven with prayers by Iranian nomads, possess a value not found in machine-made carpets. These auspicious carpets feature patterns imbued with the meaning of a stable, prosperous life and protection from misfortune.

Being lightweight, they can be used not only as rugs but also draped over furniture or hung on walls. They can be folded compactly for easy transport and are also recommended for camping or as picnic sheets.
