Isfahan, a city that flourished as the capital of Persia during the Safavid dynasty (1501-1736), is still a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its intricate tiled architecture. During the reign of Shah Abbas I in the 16th-17th centuries, carpet making was elevated to an art form under royal patronage, but temporarily declined with the end of the dynasty. In the 20th century, its techniques and aesthetic sensibilities were splendidly revived by renowned workshops such as Seirafian. Today, Isfahan carpets are woven by a few workshops that continue to uphold these traditional techniques.

This particular carpet uses "cork wool" (cork yarn), the highest quality wool taken from the soft parts of a lamb's neck and belly. It is characterized by finer and more flexible fibers than ordinary wool, possessing a silken luster. By combining this with silk as an accent, the matte texture and silk's gleam appear alternately depending on the viewing angle and light, creating a sense of depth.

The design is a quintessential Isfahan carpet composition, featuring a star-shaped central medallion on a navy blue ground, surrounded by elegant arabesque patterns known as Shah Abbas motifs. Cream, pink, and gold flowers are woven to seemingly float on the navy ground, expressing a rich worldview reminiscent of a Persian garden. The inscription in the border is the name of the weaving workshop, "Momeni Workshop," a testament to its creation by skilled artisans.
