This carpet is from Tabriz, Persia, and is entirely handwoven by skilled artisans.
This motif is based on the profile of a lotus flower, known as the "palmette pattern." Because the lotus floats on water, it has been a symbol of fertility in Iran and India since ancient times. The off-white and baby pink colors create a gorgeous yet gentle atmosphere.
The yarn is a mix of coir wool and silk.
Coal wool is wool shorn from lambs less than one year old, and is incredibly soft and smooth to the touch. Each strand is so fine that it allows for delicate designs that resemble silk.
The silk is also tightly woven into the fabric, giving the surface a unique pearl-like luster, and the elegant sheen accentuates the beauty of the design.
By weaving in wool, this excellent product is far more durable than all-silk.
It is said that with proper maintenance, a carpet can last for over 100 years. Enjoy the beauty of handwoven carpets as they change appearance and grow more tasteful with use.
