History of Gabbeh
Gabbeh are handwoven rugs traditionally made by nomadic tribes such as the Qashqai and Bakhtiari, who live in the Zagros Mountains of southwestern Iran, for their daily lives.
Originally, they were created as practical items to be laid on the floor or used as bedding. For this reason, they are characterized by free and rustic designs rather than intricate ornamentation.
Today, high-quality Gabbeh are also woven in Pakistan, preserving tradition while creating many designs that are easy to match with modern homes.
