About Gabbeh and the Amaleh Tribe
Gabbeh rugs are deeply intertwined with the nomadic and pastoral culture of the Zagros Mountains region in southwestern Iran. Particularly in the Fars region, they have been woven for centuries by tribes such as the Qashqai and Luri. Records of rugs corresponding to "Gabbeh" can be found in documents from the Safavid dynasty as early as the mid-16th century.
Gabbeh rugs, each with meaningful patterns, are also popular as gifts.
Because they are plush, they are recommended for use as座布団 (zabuton/floor cushions), chair mats, or as an item to brighten up car seats.
