This kilim was woven by the Maimana tribe, an ethnic minority living in the mountainous central region of Afghanistan. Kilims are flat-woven, pileless carpets originating primarily from Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan. Locally, they are cherished and well-used; if they get dirty, they are washed with water, and if torn, they are repaired or repurposed into bags.

Although the material is wool, it has a characteristic smooth, linen-like feel. It is breathable and thin, making it cool even in summer. Since it is dyed using natural dyes made from plants and spices, it is safer than chemical dyes and can be used with peace of mind around children and pets.


Since the same pattern can be seen on both sides, it can be used not only as a rug but also for various purposes such as draping over furniture or as a partition. Because it is lightweight, it can also be hung on a wall as decoration. It folds compactly and is easy to carry, making it recommended for camping and picnics.
