This is a Mashwani Kilim from Herat, Afghanistan. It is hand-woven by the Mashwani tribe. Their specialty is a technique called Sumac weaving, which requires complex weaving skills, making it difficult and rare, and not widely available in Japan.

This rug combines a pile-less kilim with a linen-like texture and a pile rug section, resulting in a textured rug with a beautiful geometric design and a very comfortable feel underfoot.

The design features regularly connected diamond shapes, which may appear yellowish in bright light, but the base color is beige, using ocher and dark brown wool threads.

In addition to being used as a rug, it is lightweight and can be hung on a wall for decoration. It can be folded into a small size for easy portability, making it recommended for camping and picnics.
