A work of art from Qom

An octagonal medallion emerges from a deep purple ground, with layers of roses and paisley patterns adorning the borders. This rug is a 100% hand-knotted silk rug woven in Qom (Ghom), a city in central Iran.
Measuring 130×79cm, it is the perfect size for an entryway, bedside, or even a wall hanging. Though small, the density of the craftsmanship is overwhelming.
History of Qom Rugs
Qom is an ancient city south of Tehran, known as a holy site for Shia Islam. Rug weaving in this city only truly began in the 20th century, making it relatively new among Persian rug producing regions. However, this has led artisans to differentiate themselves through "quality."
In particular, Qom rugs made with silk have a very high knot count per square meter (density), ranking them among the finest Persian rugs in the world. The unique luster that changes in color depending on the light is a characteristic unique to silk.
About the Haji Rahimi Workshop
The Haji Rahimi workshop, which created this piece, is one of Qom's most renowned workshops. It can take skilled artisans several months, and sometimes even over a year, to complete a single rug.
