A Hunting Paradise Depicted in Shikargah Design

On a deep crimson ground, deer, leopards, and birds chase among intertwining vines—this design is called "Shikargah," which means "hunting ground" in Persian. It is a motif that developed as a court art during the Safavid dynasty in Persia, recreating the hunting scenes beloved by royalty and nobility on rugs. These animals are not merely decorative; they are said to symbolize vitality, fertility, and a longing for paradise.

This piece is a genuine wool rug, hand-woven knot by knot in the Ghazni region of northern Afghanistan. Ghazni wool is known for its long fibers, natural luster, and suppleness, becoming even softer with use. The warmth of the handiwork, embedded in each knot by the artisan, creates a unique expression, with no two patterns ever being exactly alike.

Measuring 120x82cm, it's the perfect size for an entryway, bedside, or under a chair. With its narrative design, a single rug can become the centerpiece of any room.
