This is a Mashwani Kilim from Herat, Afghanistan. It is hand-woven by the Mashwani tribe. Their specialty, the Sumak weaving technique, is highly difficult due to the complex weaving skills required, making it rare and not commonly found in Japan.
This is an uneven rug that combines a pile-less kilim with a hemp-like texture and a pile rug section. Its geometric design is beautiful, and it feels very comfortable to walk on.

The regularly connected diamond pattern creates a captivating design. While it may appear yellowish in bright light, it is a beige-toned color made with ochre and dark brown wool threads.

It can be used as a rug, of course, but it is also light enough to be hung on a wall as decoration. Since it can be folded compactly and is easy to carry, it is also recommended for camping or picnics.
