Kilims are woven by the Maimana people, an ethnic minority living in the mountainous region of central Afghanistan. Kilims are flat-woven carpets with low pile, primarily produced in Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan. They are treasured locally, washed when dirty, repaired when torn, or repurposed into bags.
