The Baluch people are nomadic and semi-nomadic groups whose traditional territory spans the border region from eastern Iran to Afghanistan and Pakistan (the former Baluchistan region). Women have a tradition of weaving rugs as household work. Originally, these rugs were essential practical items for their mobile lifestyle, serving as floor coverings inside tents or as bags for transporting belongings. The designs nurtured within this lifestyle vary slightly among tribes and families, and are said to embody the weaver's memories and prayers.
At the center of this piece is a large medallion, characteristic of Baluch rugs, made up of overlapping geometric patterns that bend into hook shapes (latch hooks). To its left and right stand patterns reminiscent of the "Tree of Life," symbolizing vitality. Small diamond-shaped medallions and star-shaped rosettes are scattered in the four corners, creating a composition that draws the eye across the entire surface. With a deep red background, the ivory and navy medallions appear to float, making this rug easy to blend into both Japanese and Western-style rooms.
Measuring 163×95cm, it's a suitable size for accentuating spaces such as entrances, hallways, bedside areas, or at the foot of a sofa. Since each piece is hand-woven and unique, even rugs with the same design will differ in color shading and weave texture.
