Kilims are woven by the Maimana people, an ethnic minority living in the mountainous region of central Afghanistan. Kilims are flat-woven carpets with low pile, primarily produced in Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan. They are treasured locally, washed when dirty, repaired when torn, or repurposed into bags.

Although it is made of wool, it has a smooth, linen-like feel. It is breathable and thin, making it cool even in the summer. It is dyed using natural dyes made from plants and spices, making it safer than chemical dyes and safe for use around children and pets.
