This is a tribal rug handwoven in Iran. It is a kilim, a type of flat-weave rug without pile. Although made of wool, it has a smooth, linen-like texture, excellent breathability, and is thin, making it cool even in summer. Compared to kilims from other countries, its weave is dense, resulting in a smooth surface and vivid designs.

These pileless flat-weave tribal rugs are mainly produced in Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan. Locally, they are cherished and used carefully, being washed when dirty, repaired when torn, or even repurposed into bags.

They are dyed using natural dyes made from plants and spices, making them safer than chemical dyes and safe for children and pets.


Since the same pattern appears on both sides, they can be used not only as rugs but also draped over furniture or as partitions. Being lightweight, they can also be hung on walls as decoration. They can be folded small and are easy to carry, making them recommended for camping and picnics.
