This kilim is handwoven by the Maimana ethnic minority who live in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan. A kilim is a flat-woven, pileless rug primarily produced in Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan. In its native regions, it is cherished and used carefully; if it gets dirty, it's washed with water, and if it tears, it's repaired or repurposed into bags.
Although made of wool, it has a smooth, linen-like texture. Its excellent breathability and thinness make it cool even in summer. Dyed with natural dyes made from plants and spices, it is safer than chemical dyes, making it safe for children and pets.
Since the same pattern appears on both sides, it can be used not only as a rug but also draped over furniture or as a partition. Its lightness also allows it to be hung on walls as decoration. It folds compactly and is easy to carry, making it recommended for camping and picnics.
